Solana Labs, the company behind the development of Solana blockchain, has finally launched its much-anticipated smartphone, Saga. The mobile phone is designed to compete with the flagship products of major tech players like Apple, Google, and Samsung.

The Saga smartphone was officially announced in 2022 and will be available for pre-order from May 2023 for $1,000. According to Solana Mobile, Saga is the world’s first crypto smartphone built on the Android operating system (OS).

In a statement, Solana Mobile said that Saga was created to modernize how people interact with their digital assets, improving usability and security. The smartphone is sleek and beautifully designed, with premium components that can compete with any other product on the market.

OSOM, a privacy-focused tech company, built Saga, which features a Snapdragon 8+ Gen mobile platform to provide users with the speed to complete several tasks. The phone also comes with an integrated secure element, OSOM’s Seed Vault, which offers crypto self-custody in a way that has never been done before.

Additionally, the Solana smartphone is packed with a high-performance chip and 512GB storage, a 6.67” OLED screen with a 120HZ refresh rate, and a 4,110 mAh battery. OSOM said that Saga comes with trusted vanilla Android 13, paired with unique features like their patented Seed Vault, which allows users to sign transactions on-device with ease and familiarity of biometric security.

Solana’s dApp Store gives users access to all the blockchain-powered services they need, in addition to Google’s Play Store. As of writing, Solana (SOL) has reacted positively to the announcement, recording a 3% profit in 24 hours and a 21% profit over the past 30 days.

The Saga smartphone marks Solana’s entry into the mobile phone market, and only time will tell how it will stack up against its major competitors.
