ConsenSys’ crypto wallet MetaMask has announced a partnership with PayPal that will permit most US users to purchase Ethereum through their wallet.

By allowing US users access to MetaMask, except those in Hawaii, and the ability to buy Ethereum, this integration will be the first of its kind to be available through PayPal.

This makes it easier for users to purchase crypto and explore the decentralized internet, Web3, which is based on blockchain technology.

PayPal began offering users the chance to purchase Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin in 2020, and announced plans in May 2021 to permit transferring of crypto to third-party wallets.

MetaMask only works with blockchains that are compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), and the CEO of ConsenSys, Joseph Lubin, is a co-founder of Ethereum.

Certain former PayPal leaders, known as the “PayPal Mafia,” have recently voiced their disapproval of the company’s de-platforming.

One member of this group, the former CEO Peter Thiel, has argued that PayPal has moved away from its original purpose of giving customers more control of their money. Other members of the group include Elon Musk, the current CEO of Twitter.
