Judge Ronnie Abrams has recused herself from the case involving FTX, a cryptocurrency exchange, and its former CEO, Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF).
This was due to the fact that Abrams’ husband, Greg Andres, is a partner at the law firm, Davis Polk & Wardwell, which provided advice to FTX in 2021.
This was done to avoid any potential conflict of interest, despite the fact that Andrés is not involved in the case.
SBF was granted a $250 million bail bond and promised to attend court proceedings and not engage in illegal activity, which some thought was an excessive amount given SBF’s prior claim of having less than $100,000 in assets in a bankruptcy filing.
