Interpol is taking steps to police the metaverse, a new digital space, to combat cybercrime.

The International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO) has revealed its intent to oversee criminal activities on the metaverse.

However, there are difficulties in defining a metaverse crime and raising awareness about possible crimes.

Interpol Secretary General Jurgen Stock highlighted the ability of criminals to adapt to new technological tools for committing crimes, and revealed that Interpol is creating a dedicated unit to fight crypto crimes.

Madan Oberoi, Interpol’s executive director of technology and innovation, stated that there is a difficulty in applying existing definitions of physical space crimes to the metaverse.

As the number of metaverse users grows and the technology further develops, Interpol is working to find a solution to protecting users from criminal activities.
