Decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol Hope Finance was victimized by a hacker who “claimed everything from the Genesis protocol” on February 20 and lost about $2 million worth of cryptocurrency assets.

According to the DeFi protocol, a Nigerian named Ugwoke Pascal Chukwuebuka shared a photo of himself holding a voter’s card and conned the community.

The scammer sent 1095 Ethereum (ETH) through Tornado Cash’s mixing protocol, according to blockchain security company Peckshield.

The contract that Hope Finance had hacked was distinct from the one it had audited.
According to a representative from Hope Finance’s auditor Cognitos, the smart contract that the malicious player exploited was different from the one that was audited.

Hope Finance reportedly hired Cognitos for a smart contract code review and security analysis.
