Luxury fashion brand Gucci and NFT powerhouse Yuga Labs are coming together for an Otherside-themed collaboration that aims to blur the boundaries between the physical and digital worlds.
The joint venture will take the shape of a limited-edition series of physical Gucci products and associated NFTs, with ties to Yuga’s much-anticipated ape-themed metaverse game.
The Otherside game will revolve around the relationship between a mysterious species of aliens called “Koda” and the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC). The first physical product NFT to be released via the Gucci-Yuga partnership will be the KodaPendant, which represents both a piece of physical jewelry and a non-fungible token that unlocks numerous perks within the Otherside metaverse.
Yuga Labs will make 3,333 KodaPendants available for sale beginning on Thursday, April 6, at 6:00 pm EST. Each KodaPendant can only be purchased using Apecoin, Yuga’s native cryptocurrency, and will cost 450 APE, equivalent to $1,917 at writing.
Only current holders of Koda or Vessel NFTs will be eligible to buy a KodaPendant, and the rule effectively makes the latter available to any Otherdeed holder.
The KodaPendant will update the visual look of each affiliated Koda and Vessel NFT to sport virtual jewelry, and it will also unlock unique cosmetic options for Otherside avatars, which are scheduled to launch in the summer 2023.
The Yuga-Gucci Otherside partnership is expected to mark the beginning of a new era of metaverse-oriented collaborations that combine digital assets and real-world luxury items.
