Social investing platform eToro has announced a new partnership with social media giant Twitter, allowing users to trade cryptocurrencies and other assets directly on the platform.
The partnership is set to provide Twitter users searching for “$Cashtags” such as $TSLA or $BTC with real-time prices for various financial assets and direct them to the eToro platform for investment opportunities.
According to a spokesperson for eToro, the partnership is global, meaning Twitter users worldwide can access the $Cashtags feature.
Twitter has reported 420 million searches since adding pricing data for $Cashtags last December, with the top five searches including Tesla ($TSLA), Bitcoin ($BTC), and SPDR S&P 500 ETF ($SPY).
The partnership with eToro is set to “hugely” expand the range of assets that Twitter users can access through $Cashtags.
The announcement aligns with Twitter owner Elon Musk’s plans to integrate financial services into the platform, in an attempt to create a “super app.” Musk has previously expressed his desire for Twitter’s proposed payments system to be able to accommodate both crypto and fiat currencies.
The news was first reported by CNBC, and eToro later confirmed it on their official Twitter account.
