On December 31, Bitcoin developer and core developer Luke Dashjr announced that his PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) key had been hacked, resulting in the theft of nearly 200 bitcoins.
Dashjr stated that he was unaware of how the hackers had obtained his key, which is a common security technique that uses two keys to access encrypted data.
He also disclosed a wallet address where some of the stolen BTC had been sent, but did not specify the amount taken.
Four transactions on December 31, totaling 216.93329199 BTC and worth approximately $3.5 million at current prices, were made to the wallet address.
In November, Dashjr had tweeted that his server had been hijacked and that an investigation was underway.
Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has commented on the hack, offering to freeze any stolen BTC that comes to the exchange and offering support to Dashjr.
CZ also noted that Binance frequently deals with these issues and has law enforcement relationships worldwide.
