Binance has stepped up to provide crucial aid relief to the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck Morocco on September 8, leaving a tragic toll of at least 2,000 lives lost in Marrakech, a city known for its vibrant culture and history.
In a heartfelt announcement made on September 11, Binance has pledged to extend a helping hand by airdropping a substantial amount of up to $3 million worth of Binance Coin (BNB) to users residing in the areas most severely affected by this catastrophic event.
The earthquake registered an alarming magnitude of 7 on the Richter scale, classifying it as a “major” seismic event. This natural disaster has left countless families and communities grappling with the aftermath.
Changpeng Zhao, the founder and CEO of Binance, expressed his deep sympathy for the Moroccan people during this challenging time, referring to the earthquake as nothing short of “devastating.” He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the nation and its citizens.
Additionally, Zhao urged Binance users who are fortunate enough not to have been directly impacted by the earthquake to consider the welfare of those in dire need. He issued a heartfelt call for compassion, saying:
“For Moroccan users who receive these donations but are unimpacted by the earthquake, we ask them to pass the funds on to those most in need.”
To ensure the efficient distribution of aid, Binance has devised a method to identify users residing in the affected region. This will be achieved through a proof-of-address protocol that was completed prior to the earthquake.
In particular, users located in the Marrakech-Safi province, the region most severely hit by the earthquake, will receive a direct allocation of $100 worth of Binance Coin (BNB) into their Binance accounts.
